Judging by the August 26 #smNPchat, development directors in small shops are focusing on stewardship and finding donor-centric ways of getting creative as they gear up for the final quarter of the year.
Just how creative?
Shanon Doolittle (@sldoolittle) noted that she’s already planning her organization’s Thanks for Giving month. What better opportunity for truly giving thanks to your donors?
Several participants said that they’re making more of an effort to collect donor “testimonials,” those wonderful snippets of conversation expressing why your supporters support you. As William Pitcher (@williampitcher), a charitable & sponsorship fundraising consultant from Ontario remarked: “Notes from ANY beneficiary of your NP are great. Students for schools. Patients for healthcare etc”
Handwritten notes and phone calls are playing a big role in the personal touch. Tina Snider (@elincomm), a fundraising consultant in South Florida, tweeted: As our donor appreciation event, every guest got a handwritten TY note from kids upon their arrival. Very cool.
And Jennifer Price (@PhilanthropyInk), a Chicago health care development director tweeted: I used 4th of July this yr to show gratitude as well. Received great response, even during busy summer vacation time.
